Moving-out cleaning checklist by room
Read your housing agreement and any move-out instructions first. This is an organizing checklist, not a statement of what your lease requires or a promise about a deposit.

Leave cleaning until the room is clear
Pack everything except the supplies you need to finish the room. Work from higher surfaces toward the floor so dust and debris do not undo a finished area.
Use products appropriate for the material and follow their labels. Avoid experimental treatments or repairs just before handoff. Ask the property contact about anything outside routine cleaning.
Walk through each room
Print this list and cross out anything that does not apply. Add instructions specific to your home before cleaning begins.
| Area | Tasks to check |
|---|---|
| Kitchen | Empty cupboards; wipe shelves and counters; clean sink and applicable appliance surfaces. |
| Bathroom | Clear storage; clean sink, toilet, bath or shower, and mirrors. |
| Living and bedrooms | Empty closets; dust accessible surfaces; clean floors as appropriate. |
| Entry and storage | Remove belongings and rubbish; check drawers, shelves, and outdoor spaces. |
| Final walkthrough | Record condition, check instructions, and return keys as agreed. |
Keep the last-day work small
Aim to finish unused rooms before moving day. Leave one small cleaning kit accessible for the final floor pass and any marks revealed when furniture leaves.
Once the truck is loaded, open every cupboard and drawer. Take condition photos in the same order as your room list. Keep the photos and handoff records together with the housing documents.
